On April 14, 2018, the Honorable Mayor of Cape Canaveral, Bob Hoog, presented CCI President Jim Lewis the Exemplary Service Award for Communications Concepts, Inc. for 40 years of service to the community as part of the Founders Day Event at Manatee Sanctuary Park.
Lewis thanked the City and the company’s clients and employees for making this 40-year milestone possible. He made note that Cape Canaveral has long been known for its role in the Space Program. So, it is no surprise that the company he founded has been part of the Space Program since 1978.
Today, CCI is expanding its space presence as part of the winning team that was awarded the Kennedy Infrastructure, Applications and Communications (KIAC) support services contract from NASA. As part of the contract, CCI is providing multi-media services which include production of videos, graphics, web content, live broadcasts and webcasts at KSC and Vandenberg AFB. “We are extremely pleased to be part of the KIAC team,” said Lewis, CCI President, “this contract allows us to continue to build on our previous successes.”
An Emmy winning Federal Government Certified Small Business with production facilities in Florida and Virginia, CCI has provided their expertise for companies such as the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center, Space Florida, Safran USA, Harris Corporation, the United States Navy, AAR, OneWeb, Boeing, Port Canaveral, ShareSpace Foundation, the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation and more. Work for these firms has ranged from producing informational, marketing or training programs.
CCI space related projects has included supporting coverage of the first Space Shuttle launch for the BBC in April 1981, mission coverage of first Malaysian astronaut in 2008 and the last shuttle launch for the Discovery Networks Science Channel in July 2012.
Entertainment projects have included producing: “Skating’s Next Star” with Kristi Yamaguchi in 2006, “The Great American Car War”, a TV a show that aired on the Velocity Network in 2015, the movie “Armageddon” and the Japanese movie, “Space Brothers”. To find out more about these and other projects that CCI has produced over the last 40-years visit the new company website timeline at: https://cci321.com/40th-anniversary-timeline/
CCI’s facilities include Ultra-High Definition video equipment with 4K post-production editing suites, an 1,100 square foot studio, an audio production suite for voiceovers and dialog replacement (ADR), a duplication facility that can duplicate most videotape formats to disc or hard-drive, a multimedia production suite for custom Power Point presentations, web development creations and the hosting of interactive online tools and websites.
Operations Manager Robin Champagne attributes reaching this 40-year milestone to the company’s positive attitude and by staying up to date with technology. One of CCI’s most recent equipment acquisitions are self-operating, fully autonomous robotic 4K video cameras which allow video capture without the cost of a camera operator. The robotic cameras can be utilized with the robotic 4K drone that CCI acquired last year. These robots make video production affordable to everyone and allows CCI to capture more creative footage at no additional cost for clients.
CCI President and Founder Jim Lewis thanks the community of Cape Canaveral, clients, employees and friends for helping Communications Concepts reach this 40th Anniversary.
Safran USA is an industry-leading supplier for the U.S. aerospace and defense sector, and CCI regularly records their presence at major trade shows around the United States of America.
In February 2018, Safran was present at the Helicopter Association International Heli Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada to show their full range of rotorcraft systems. CCI sent a producer to Las Vegas and a local two person camera crew to capture several interviews and the activity at their booth. Safran introduced their new marketing tool which is based on Augmented Reality to demonstrate the Aneto-1 and its benefits.
Then in April, CCI was supporting Safran at the MRO Americas show in Orlando, Florida. CCI’s three person crew used our newly acquired Dracast battery powered light kit. The lights are bi-color and dimmable for shooting in almost any lighting condition. The battery power allows for ease of movement in the close conditions of a tradeshow floor.
Safran’s highlight was the signing ceremony with Air Canada and the 737 Max Program. You can view the videos we’ve recorded, edited and produced for Safran USA here.
Tank America is Central Florida’s newest adrenaline packed attraction where you can be transported back in time driving an authentic military tank, cruising over rough terrain and even crushing a car if you want.
CCI recorded, produced and edited a promotional video using two 4k cameras and a special high frame rate 2.7 camera to capture every detail. Audio was recorded from three locations as well. Tank America has such a great tank obstacle course with steep hills, water hazards, concrete coverts that drivers must power through. CCI captured the action and sound from the Tank at every possible vantage point. You can feel it when you see the footage at https://www.tankamerica.com/
Scott Benjamin, a partner of Tank America said: “Video looks good – pleased with the product. I think we should absolutely put video on the home page of our website and showcase it. It came out nice.”

AV RENTAL AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT
The Space Coast Area Transit B4 Summit used CCI’s AV rental and tech support services for the announcement and launch of a new Bike Share program. The gathering of about 180 community leaders was held at the Radisson Resort at the Port in Cape Canaveral, FL in January. CCI set up a projector, a 9’ x 12’ screen, two microphones, four speakers, a podium with presidential microphones, a riser, lighting, a laptop computer and an audio mixing board in addition to an on-site technician to operate the equipment.
John Pavlakos, Board Member for the B4 Summit Local Organizing Committee said, “With CCI at the helm, I was able to enjoy our event without stress!”
Brevard County’s first public bike share program will have 80 bikes at stations spread throughout Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. The bikes can be unlocked and rented at the touch of a button in 10 seconds by using a smart phone application. B4 is shorthand for Bikes, Bus, Beach + Brevard.
In February, OneWeb Satellites hosted an early tour of about 130 people to see their new building located on NASA property in Exploration Park, FL. They needed to amplify the speaker’s voice in an open space of about 15,000 square feet. CCI was at the groundbreaking for the building in March of 2017, so OneWeb called CCI again to provide the AV equipment and technical support during this tour. CCI provided two microphones, four speakers, and a sound mixing board plus an AV technician to run the equipment. OneWeb Satellites is the world’s second largest space company to manufacture low-cost, ultra- high performing satellites at high-volumes.
No Limits Academy, a not-for-profit Christian school for physically disabled children in Melbourne, FL, celebrated the lives and achievements of their students during their “Everybody Can Dance” Hollywood Ball on March 3rd. CCI provided the AV equipment and technical support with a 9’ x 12’ screen, a projector, two wireless microphones, and a sound mixing board.
Sponsors and VIP honorees were given awards, dinner was provided and the evening ended with a dance. NLA provides an individually tailored, multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment and education of children with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries and other physical disorders.
Founder and CEO Laura Joslin said: “CCI successfully helped bring the visual message of educational change for children with disabilities in this event for No Limits Academy”. www.NoLimitsAcademy.com.
And just for fun, CCI recorded most of the event with a 360 camera. The video begins with the graduation ceremony but be sure to see the ending for the dance party with all the kids – click here!
