Lights, Camera, Action! Yes, that’s right – it all starts with lights. 2020 was a challenging year to say the least. On top of everything else, everyone is operating a personal film studio from their living room. Whether you’re on daily video calls for work or you’ve set up an e-appointment with your doctor, you’ve been sitting in front of a camera watching others sitting in front of a camera for several months at this point.
You may have noticed that most of your video call colleagues are sitting in the shadows. You may have also thought some proper lighting might help you get out of the dark on the small screen. But is it worth the investment when we may return to “normal”? CCI can help.
If you have an important meeting, CCI offers our Professional Selfie Kit rental as mentioned previously in the newsletter. And with the possibility that our home studios may be a permanent fixture, at least on a part-time basis, you may want to take steps to present your best self to others during video calls. A couple of small lights may be a good investment. By placing the lights on each side of your computer camera, powered via USB or AC, you’ll shine during your meetings.
If you are only going to be on the occasional video call, and if you like to take selfies, then a light will enhance your pictures. Yes, selfies are supposed to be candid, so why a light? If you take a selfie with the sun or window behind you, you’ll notice that the result is dark. People won’t be able to see your face. How about a selfie in front of holiday lights? They will brighten up the shot and make you look great.
If you don’t want to carry around an accessory for your phone, a good portable solution is a small ring light that can be used with your laptop or your phone. It clips onto your phone or laptop and illuminates your face. This light is also small enough to fit in a pocket or handbag. It charges with a USB cable.
Lights can make a difference in your video conference calls, videos, and photos, and they can take your social media posts to the next level. They will not make a bad picture good, but better lighting certainly can’t hurt. There is an old saying: if you want a better selfie, you need to bring a better face. Look your best with the help of a light.
